The Wordcatcher

After reading or listening to old-time tales
foretold by islanders,
passed on through generations,
Wordcatcher 'sleeps on them'
to wake at dawn with the words caught within the mind
to quickly save for all to read within a twisting line.

The words may dance for you
and sometimes split in two
or form a diamond, treasures be
the words to fly so free.

Fairies, giants, magic spells,
love and hate and joy and war.
Table tops and pools and lochs,
keys and swords
and forget-me-nots
All to be! To find the time
to take a rest to read a line.

I awoke to find I was sleeping.
It was dark yet the room was light.
I knew where I was, yet I was somewhere else.
The Wordcatcher sleeps tonight!
